Tipperary Town Elections

It was standing room only for the town’s Chamber of Commerce General Meeting on Tuesday. Elections took place for the Chamber’s director positions, as well as for the general committee.

There was great positivity among the large attendance. Seamus O’Grady, who was elected to the position of Chairperson of Tipperary Chamber of Commerce, said that while the town faces some significant challenges, there is fantastic community spirit and a clear determination to make the town a better place to live, work and do business.

“We clearly face difficult issues like our unreliable water supply, N24 traffic and increased parking charges that are being proposed by the County Council. We intend to be strong advocates for the town and to make the powers that be listen to us”, he said.

“I have always believed that there is great potential to develop Tipperary Town and its hinterland in a very positive way and I am honoured to have been asked to lead the Chamber towards that goal”.

“I would like to thank and recognise Joe Hayes, who was the previous Chairperson, as he led the Chamber very well during challenging times. I would also like to acknowledge and thank Sinead O’Dwyer who had served as the Chamber’s Company Secretary, again managing everything very efficiently and well. We are lucky to be inheriting a sound, stable organisation where proper governance was highly valued” he said.

The Chamber will now begin to formulate its plans for the future and to work out how it can be the best possible voice for the town in dealing with the various challenges and in delivering new improvements.
